Shen Wei says in episode 8, when he's recruitng the SID to search for Ding Dun, that he's a civil servant in the palace who Shen Wei discovered a few days ago had deliberately infiltrated the palace. (I have to assume he's simplifying things for the SID there, since IIRC we see Ding Dun in a different role working for the palace in the bit after YOHE about the Envoy waking up ...) Anyway, I think that does mean Ding Dun was in his position until around episode 8 and then, when he fled after being exposed as Ye Zun's agent, the Attendant/Deacon/whatever we're calling him got his old job.
I'm briefly confused again -- did that happen in reality or in a dream?
Honestly, I don't know - it might have happened in both versions, just with the twins' roles swapped? But it might not; I hope next episode will make that clearer. Either way it's very in character for the Regent!
