I don't think he can know that, though? He clearly expects Shen Wei to come, but he can't be sure the Sundial's activation in particular will alert him; it might instead be Zhao Yunlan being in danger. Like, from Zhao Yunlan's POV, Shen Wei also appeared right in the instant he was in danger when Ding Dun attacked him in Dixing, and no Hallows were involved there ...
I didn't think Zhao Yunlan was conscious by the time Shen Wei showed up during the Ding Dun attack? I was thinking more of Zhao Yunlan starting to take the case off in ep 15, and then Zhao Yunlan says something about how the Envoy always knows. I think at this point, he's aiming to make as big a disturbance in the Force as possible. Anyway, we may have to agree to disagree. :-)
And I think that has to be part of why he's reacting so very strongly when he sees Shen Wei looking so awful and sick that night in the kitchen?
