I may be wrong, but I feel like calling himself Lao-Chu means he thinks of himself in relation to the people who call him that, i.e. the SID - as part of that group. Just the Chu Shuzhi outsider-to-part-of-the-family trajectory, you know?
Oh! I just realised his robes must have some special element, because it's shocking to Chu Shuzhi that they're damaged by the explosion at the end of episode 4. Chu Shuzhi reacts as if it's the Envoy who's been hurt there, not just his robes, I think?
Oooh, good thinking! At the very least it implies that the Envoy's self-defences should cover his clothes as well. (I always thought Chu Shuzhi assumed that if something could get through far enough to harm the robe, it would also be far enough to injure the Envoy himself.)
