Is it a dolly zoom, then? I thought in that, the foreground and the background would both be moving, but ZYL and SW are static and only the background moves. (But I know next to nothing abouit film terminology, alas!)

It is. From wikipedia: The effect is achieved by zooming a zoom lens to adjust the angle of view (often referred to as field of view, or FOV) while the camera dollies (moves) toward or away from the subject in such a way as to keep the subject the same size in the frame throughout. [...] Thus, during the zoom, there is a continuous perspective distortion, the most directly noticeable feature being that the background appears to change size relative to the subject.

I would love to read it too! To write it I'd have to figure out a LOT more than what I've got, LOL. (Any thoughts on what should happen in this AU?)

It partly depends on what Ya Qing means by revivification. Any idea on that? What specifically does she want? But one strategy could be to gather the Hallows herself with the intention of using them to build an alliance with Dixing (or with the highest bidder?). And then the SID comes after the Hallows, and so does Zhu Jiu, and she finds herself under siege and eventually has to pick a side. Something in that vein? Idk.

Is it weird? (I thought he was talking to Zhao Yunlan, but it could be anyone at the SID.)

It seems a little weird to me? (If it's not weird, why did you highlight it? Just as a point of interest?)

Are his robes and mask made of something other than ordinary fabric? Oooh, maybe they're reinforced with black energy and need to constantly be fed energy to work, and in Dixing there's enough ambient black energy, but in Haixing there's not and it has to come out of his own energy?

Oh! I just realised his robes must have some special element, because it's shocking to Chu Shuzhi that they're damaged by the explosion at the end of episode 4. Chu Shuzhi reacts as if it's the Envoy who's been hurt there, not just his robes, I think?
