Huh, that's fascinating, do you really? I don't think I do that ...

I meant saying things like "I definitely feel like the Envoy doesn't owe anyone his secrets, but maybe Shen Wei as Zhao Yunlan's "intimate friend"... kind of does a bit?" and talking about the Envoy being very stern with Tan Xiao. The roles are so distinct that sometimes the boundary between them seems impermeable? And the Envoy's reactions are different from Shen Wei's too, a lot of the time, and his priorities (by necessity). I think that's why it's so obvious when Shen Wei is plain-clothes Envoying, versus when he's being Professor Shen.

But I think if Zhao Yunlan came at it from that angle it would be a lot harder for him to maintain the separation.

Which may be why Zhao Yunlan doesn't do it? He wants Shen Wei to meet him in the middle, right?
