I know we've talked about this before - we don't read the book con entirely the same way. So I don't think it shows care; the manipulative aspect entirely undermines the gift-giving. But I do think Shen Wei is pretty sure Zhao Yunlan does care, or is well on his way to caring, by this point - his behaviour over the course of the show so far, together with what he knows of Kunlun, should be enough for that conclusion. And if not, then finding out just how much of a disaster Zhao Yunlan can be probably makes Shen Wei reevaluate enough to get what really lies behind the facade ...

There's the mugging, I suppose, and Zhao Yunlan does get hurt there.

Yeah, but that's not so much knowingly heading into danger as underestimating the danger ... There's nothing as blatant as the video game this early.
