Foodie Update
Here's another update on my project to list all the food and drink in the drama. I started out with a preliminary list based on skimming, my memory and other people's rewatches. I'm now slowly working through a full rewatch. I've been doing 2-3 episodes a week and posting here with updates every couple of weeks. The master post has now been updated through episode 18. I’ve added about 20 new events between 13 and 18 inclusive. Yeah, I missed quite a bit in these episodes the first time. Sorry!
Here are my notes and questions form episodes 13 to 12
Does anyone have thoughts on useful words to used to distinguish the different styles of wine? The subs seem to use wine for everything, but I’d like to note the differences between western style fermented grape juice, and the clear grain based Asian style drinks which are more common in the show.
I’ve updated the lollipop policy now instead of not including them I’m including them when someone other than Zhao Yunlan has one. But I haven’t gone back to look for lollipops in earlier episodes before I made the change.
Food at wedding is very western - little carrot cakes, wine and champagne, ect.
Episode 14 has so many wonderful food moments. Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan’s tea drinking scene of course, but also Xiao Guo and his uncle communicating through food, a very cute flashback of Tan Xiao and Zheng Yi making dumplings together, Ya Qing eating an apple very dramatically, and the street food xu tan at the end. I love that episode a lot.
Can anyone read the sign at the reopened fruit stall in episode 14? (At about 26:40)
I didn’t notice the regent sniffing fruit in episode 15 the first time -- but now that I’ve noticed it I’m amused.
