Slo-Mo Rewatch: Guardian episode 21, part 2

Hi, welcome back to our Guardian drama Slo-Mo Rewatch! Watch half an episode a week, and then come and chat about it here in comments. Or you can just jump into the comments without rewatching, of course!

Here is the first half of episode 21. On to the second half!

Episode 21 from 23:00:

Summary:

Guo Changcheng tries to help his aunt win at mahjong, but Chu Shuzhi snatches victory for himself. Later, Chu Shuzhi wonders if he did something wrong, and we learn that he has no concept of polite courtesies. *g* They discover Grocer Wang's shop is closed. He was bullied on Reunion Eve, and hasn't been seen for a while.

Dr Cheng offers Da Qing hypnosis as a treatment for his amnesia, and is notified that the family of Bai Suxia's family has retrieved her body. She remembers the Reunion Eve accident, where a pregnant woman and her unborn child both died.

In Snake territory, Zhu Hong uses a guard's feelings for her to get a sneak peek at the restricted area - and then Ya Qing attacks. Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan arrive for the Yashou fleamarket, and meet Ying Chun. They're interrupted by a Crow cawing, and they all rush to the site, where Ya Qing has Zhu Hong hostage. She's here to settle the score for Ying Chun and Fourth Uncle detaining her while the SID captured Zhu Jiu.

Fourth Uncle rushes at Ya Qing, but she knocks him back. Shen Wei knocks Ya Qing back in turn, pulling Zhu Hong to freedom with black energy even as he rushes at Ya Qing. He threatens her with his dao, and his anger is only derailed by Zhao Yunlan calling "Xiao-Wei!" Zhao Yunlan talks to Ya Qing to de-escalate the situation. Fourth Uncle proposes electing a Yashou High Chief in three months, and Ya Qing agrees, then flies off. Zhao Yunlan concludes that's why he was invited to the Yashou Fleamarket in the first place: Fourth Uncle wanted his help in dealing with Ya Qing. Fourth Uncle gives Zhu Hong the key to the restricted area for safekeeping, telling her it will only work if you can get it to sprout first.

At the SID, Wang Zheng and Sang Zan have a romantic evening with dancing in the petal-strewn library. Later, Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei arrive at the SID, and everyone greets Shen Wei as the Envoy. Shen Wei apologises to Chu Shuzhi for not telling him in advance.

Guo Changcheng and Cong Bo both tell the SID about a miracle doctor who can cure Zhao Yunlan's eyes, and they go check him out. But the doctor wants unquestioning deference and reacts badly to any questions, so Zhao Yunlan decides to leave. Shen Wei spots Professor Ouyang arriving, and Da Qing spies on Professor Ouyang and the doctor. Afterwards, Shen Wei talks to Professor Ouyang, and he tries to recruit Shen Wei again. He also vouches for the doctor's abilities.

Ying Chun: "Everyone says the Lord Guardian is a glib-tongued hunk. You don't disappoint."

When the SID greets Shen Wei as "Hei Pao-daren", the only one who doesn't join in is Chu Shuzhi. ♥ ♥ ♥

(Xiao-Guo is absent, though. Chu Shuzhi might not have let him join in either! *g*)

Questions:

Which this your favourite part/scene/moment in this half-episode? Any favourite lines (other than "Xiao-Wei")? What do Xiao-Guo's aunt and uncle really think about Chu Shuzhi? Who talked to Ying Chun about Zhao Yunlan? Have the Snakes really been guarding the restricted area for 10,000 years without ever knowing what's inside? Does Ya Qing kill the Snake guard (Jia-ge), or just knock him out? What is Ya Qing's plan here? Would Shen Wei have killed Ya Qing? What is going on in his head when Zhao Yunlan calls him "Xiao-Wei"? What does Zhao Yunlan make of his reaction? Does Fourth Uncle have any expectations who will become High Chief? How does Chu Shuzhi feel about the Envoy apologising to him? Does Professor Ouyang realise the miracle doctor's healing ability is a Dixing power? Any thoughts about parallels with other parts of the drama? Or about how any of this connects with the novel?

Summary
Zhao Yunlan eats breakfast at the SID while everyone watches in dismay, then he dismisses them all for the holiday and leaves with Shen Wei. Chu Shuzhi asks Zhu Hong about Shen Wei's presence the night before, and she decides it's time to let the cat out of the bag. At the hospital, Shen Wei's old classmate Dr Cheng Xinyan checks Zhao Yunlan's eyes and can't find anything physically wrong. Zhao Yunlan insists Shen Wei leave to take a lecture.

Lin Jing sits in a music shop, browsing through everyone's holiday selfies. Zhu Hong is at the Snake Village. Guo Changcheng has taken Chu Shuzhi (and his puppet) home for a socially awkward game of mahjong. Meanwhile, Da Qing and Zhao Yunlan hang out at the hospital, where Da Qing teases Zhao Yunlan, eats his snacks, and delivers a recorder full of messages from the team. The recorder includes Zhu Hong's podfic of the Record of Ancient Secrets, and hearing Kunlun's name messes up Da Qing's head. Zhao Yunlan leaves him with Cheng Xinyan for treatment and decides to make his own way home.

Shen Wei is distracted in class to the point where everyone notices. Zhao Yunlan fumbles his way around the hospital, only to be intercepted by his dad.

Lin Jing sees a hot girl in the music shop, and he chases after her to return some sheet music she left behind. Alas, she's working with Ya Qing.

Zhao Xinci drives Zhao Yunlan home. Upon arrival, they argue about Zhao Yunlan's "friendship" with Shen Wei, and then Zhang Shi emerges to wax philosophical. Zhao Yunlan goes inside but has a vision of his father in a car crash and rushes back out with the help of a kind neighbour. He has a near-miss with a car, and Shen Wei snatches him to safety. Shen Wei grabs Zhao Yunlan's wrist and tows him back inside.

In the Snake Village, young men are lining up to audition for the role of Zhu Hong's husband, but she's only interested in finding a cure for Zhao Yunlan's eyesight. Her uncle mentions the Yashou flea market.

Shen Wei puts Zhao Yunlan on the bed; Zhao Yunlan won't stay put. Shen Wei grows agitated enough to let slip an oblique reference to YOHE, and Zhao Yunlan fishes for answers. Then Zhu Hong calls about the flea market, and they leave in search of a cure.

During the Da Qing & Zhao Yunlan hospital scene, why doesn't Da Qing mention that Zhu Hong revealed Shen Wei's identity? What is Shen Wei thinking when he hears his students talking about him? Why does Zhang Shi choose this moment to give Zhao Yunlan life advice? What did Zhao Yunlan hope to achieve by racing back down to the road -- did he think he could stop the crash somehow? How many places did Shen Wei look for Zhao Yunlan before finding him at home? Where are all the other Snake village young women, and how do they feel about Zhu Hong's popularity among the young men?
