Huh. Does the Emissary ever go to the mountains, I wonder. (I don't remember any references from vol 1.) He doesn't give the impression of being that tied to the Mortal Realm, you know? (I'm assuming the mountains in the Hanga arc aren't part of the Kunlun Mountain chain, because that would just be weird.)
And ftr, I don't think any living things are ever included in the list of things he guards/protects/rules over/etc.
Interesting! I wonder if that's to do with the pace at which he experiences time. Squirrels and owls and deer and wolves would flick in and out of existence even faster than a human. (Ooh, I wonder if any of his rivers had dragons: As Gonggong commanded water, the Dragon tribe, spirits of the water, were the first to take sides.) Or maybe it's that the wildlife is assumed to be part of the mountains and rivers. Hmm...
